Sycamore
Welcome to Sycamore Class
Sycamore Class is a mixture of children from Year 4 and Year 5 who learn together first thing in the morning, for English lessons and every afternoon.
In the mornings we start the day with mental maths or quiet reading, followed by a short time of prayer before we split into separate year groups for Maths.
The rest of our morning and our afternoons are spent studying a variety of texts in English and exploring a range of subjects across the wider curriculum.
Autumn Term
In science we will begin the term learning about Living Things and Their Habitats. We will find out about food chains and classification, as well as thinking about how and why habitats change and the dangers this can pose to living things. After half term we will learn about sound, including how sound travels, how we hear and how sound changes pitch and volume.
In Geography we will be studying how land use has changed around our school and homes. We will first learn about different maps and the symbols used on modern day Ordnance Survey maps. We will be using the digimaps programme to compare maps of the same area, noticing changes over time and we will think about the reasons why our town has changed and how it might change in the future. Our history topic will once again be Anglo Saxons where we will be learning more about the everyday lives of Anglo Saxons and developing our archaeology skills by examining evidence from Sutton Hoo.
Our PE lessons this term will be dance, with Lydia, on Mondays and challenging ourselves with invasion games on Thursdays for the first half of term, after half term we will be going swimming.
In computing lessons, we will be learning all about computer systems and networks.
For the first half of term, our art lessons will be spent working on our drawing skills using space as our stimulus. We will be looking at the work of Teis Albers. After half term we will be using our DT skills to design and make Christmas cross stitch bookmarks.
In RE will be learning about Creation and how we are called to be stewards of the world. As well as the story of creation, we will study some psalms and listen to letters from Pope Francis called Laudato Si and Fratelli Tutti.
In music this term we will be listening to Make You Feel My Love by Adele and using this song as stimulus and inspiration for our own performance and composition.
In Spanish we will be learning all about seasons and how to introduce ourselves.
We will also continue to work on our times tables and spellings and explore a wide variety of texts in our guided reading sessions.
